prague and art

Prague was one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen. full of what I thought of as architectural sherbert whorls--baroque, neo-classical, rococo, art nouveau, medieval, cubist. and all in an amazing range of pastel colors. everywhere you look there are crazy figurative, sculptural, and decorative details on the buildings, from all eras and with all kinds of agendas. you will have to wait for the term to begin to see images of these! powerpoints to anticipate......
because we were on a grant-funded mission to research contemporary women artists we need to go back; there were so many collections and libraries we did not see. oh and of course it is the home of Kafka and the Golem. after piecing together exhibitions and catalogs from a myriad of places (Prague is also a cobblestoned labyrinth), we eventually found a full trove of czech contemporary art information at tranzit (website now in links to the right).
